About Pisces Albafica

Albafica (alba=white, fikus=tree, thus meaning "tree of white flowers") is the guardian of the 12th house of Pisces 243 years prior to his succesor in the original Saint Seiya, Pisces Aphrodite. Like Aphrodite, Albafica is the most beautiful amongst the 12 Golden Saints, and all of his attacks are related to roses and poison.

He is very reserved and enigmatic and is always trying to keep a great distance between himself and everyone else around him. The reason why he chose this isolation was due to the fact that while he trained his body to become immune to the lethal Royal Demon Roses (and all other poisons for that matter), his own blood became a lethal poison as well. So he feared any contact with others would result in their death.

Albafica is very secure of himself, and this is shown when he battles the spectres that attempt to enter the Sanctuary and assures them their death is inevitable upon meeting them along with the words, "Come see if you can entertain me a bit". I was impressed at how prepared he was in fact, before anyone else knew that an attack was imminent, he had already covered the path to the Pope's Chambers to prevent intruders from advancing (having an advantage that the House of Pisces is the 12th and last, and the closest to the chambers). He is also the first to confront them and eliminate several of them with his elegant but deadly attacks.

Albafica's beauty is something even the spectres recognize and admire upon meeting him, but it's not exactly something he likes being told probably since his beauty makes him look frail and weak upon their eyes and he is definitely nothing of the sort. His beauty is just like his roses, who are extremely beautiful on the outside and extremely deadly on the inside.

Like I mentioned before, his isolation does not lie in narcissism but in his will to protect everyone else around him. Albafica has indeed a great heart, and this is clearly seen in his great effort to keep the people from the village close to the Sanctuary free from any harm. The villagers even have great faith in him, especially one girl who Albafica once met on a rainy day and who he sheltered with his cape and who realized his great kindness.

Following contains spoilers so advance only if you are sure:

When Albafica confronts Minos, the one leading the attack of the spectres, he is overpowered by his "Cosmic Puppet attack, using Albafica like a puppet and destroying all of his extremities leaving him practically dead. Since Minos knew of Albafica's attachment towards the village, he decides to attack it and is intercepted by Aries Shion who had rushed to aid Albafica.

As they both ready for battle, Minos uses the deathly attack he had once used against Albafica with Shion, but his attempt is thwarted when Albafica himself reappears and apologizes to Shion for all the trouble. Albafica reenters the battle stating he can still fight and elevates his cosmos to the highest level by using his own blood for his final attack by filling a white rose that he had succesfully stabbed in Minos' chest while distracting him with his Crimson Thorn attack.

Upon realizing his defeat, Minos attempts to destroy the village in revenge to his humilliation, but his attack is contained by Shion. Shion goes to aid Albafica who asks him not to come near since his blood is everywhere, and they realize that the attack made the rose petals scatter to where they are to which Albafica replies with his final words: "All my life I have been among these poisonous roses...but now, for the first time I think...these roses are beautiful."

As the rose petals scatter throughout the village, Shion carries Albafica's body away from the battle site to the Sanctuary where the girl who had grown attached to Albafica asks if they all will die like this. Shion tells her that even though they know they will die for the sake of love and justice, they fight to protect the lives of the people and will continue to do so until the fire of their existence dies out.

Silent Deceit

Silent Deceit has been open since February 22, 2009 and was approved on September 16. 2009. I've never been so big on Saint Seiya but I got really hooked on Lost Canvas because of its wonderful characters. Of course, Albafica impressed me deeply even before he even made his grand entrance in the manga and I was amazed at how much I grew to love him.

I chose this name after searching for quotes about beauty; Aristotle called beauty a "Silent Deceit" and I thought it fit perfectly with Albafica who uses his beauty as a way to hide the lethal poison he carries within him.
